The Academy for Advanced Studies is Henry County’s college and career academy for grades 9-12! AAS has been approved by the local and state boards of education to operate as a charter program of choice. Their mission is to ensure each student graduates high school with the knowledge, skills, and attributes necessary for college and career success. In fulfilling this mission, AAS ensures each student is actively engaged in rigorous, relevant, and innovative instructional programs.

The Academy produces multiple benefits for students, employers, and the community-at-large, including increased high school graduation and college enrollment rates, higher levels of academic attainment, stronger preparation for high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand careers, and greater potential for local economic development. A board of directors, comprised primarily of business and industry representatives, provides support and oversight to ensure the instructional program is aligned with current and future workforce needs. AAS also maintains strong partnerships with Southern Crescent Technical College, Clayton State University, and Gordon State College to provide students and adults with local access to college courses.

“The Academy for Advanced Studies has proven to be a wise investment of resources for the benefit of our citizens, and Gordon State College is excited about the future of this joint endeavor.” – Dr. Max Burns, President of Gordon State College

The spring College and Career Expo for Henry County High School and the Academy for Advanced Studies is coming up on January 26, 2017 (during the school day)! Students who are afforded opportunities to explore post-secondary options and their local business community are more equipped to make informed career and post-secondary choices. This expo is designed to equip students with as much information as possible to prepare for a productive career. If you are interested in helping out with this expo, they are looking for items to be donated such as t-shirts, water bottles, etc. for door prizes and an incentive for student participation and engagement.

The next Open House at the Academy will be Tuesday, January 24th from 5 to 7 PM. Register your student(s) in the Academy for Advanced Studies, and help them get started on a path to success!
