“Made in Henry” – Celebrating Henry County Manufacturers

Whether it’s spicing up the backyard BBQ with Ken’s BBQ sauce or sprucing up our homes with a little BEHR paint, many Henry County residents are unaware that they are routinely using “Made in Henry” products. During the month of April, the Henry County Development Authority, HCDA, will be spotlighting “Made in Henry” products and the companies that have manufacturing facilities in our community. Included in our “Made in Henry” spotlight will be proclamations issued by the Henry County Board of Commissioners, each municipality and our key community partners expressing their support in joining the HCDA in Naming the Week of April 18, 2016 as “Made in Henry” Manufacturing Appreciation Week in Henry County.  This will coincide with the Governor’s statewide proclamation of Georgia Manufacturing Appreciation Week.

Georgia Manufacturing Appreciation Week (MAW) was developed by the Technical College System of Georgia and the Georgia Department of Economic Development. This will be the 22nd year that MAW has been recognized. There will be an Awards Luncheon on April 21st at the Georgia International Convention Center, honoring Georgia Manufacturers.

Henry County has an impressive presence of advanced manufacturing companies, including Alpla, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of bottles and closures, Southern States, the largest switch manufacturer in North America, and Ken’s Foods, producer of high quality dressings, sauces and marinades. They are also among the largest employers in Henry County.

Niche specific employment growth has been impressive, including adding over 200 new jobs in medical manufacturing and over 100 jobs in plastics and rubber manufacturing, over the past decade.  Henry County has also demonstrated strong and growing employment strengths in medical equipment and supplies manufacturing, which grew by 200 employees between 2001 and 2011. The availability of water resources underpins the potential for additional manufacturing activity. Henry County enjoys a water surplus, with current capacity projected to support at least thirty years of growth in the county.
